Spectacular Food Disasters
While recently reminiscing about past food disasters, I recollected the following experience…
I used to have a friend that was fairly competitive with me in the kitchen. She invited me to her house around the holidays for our group of friends' an annual holiday party.
This particular year, I was bringing cake. I spent about three hours making the perfect Angel Food cake. Now, for those of you who have made Angel Food cake from scratch — you know it is not an easy cake to make well. It was also my first time making one from scratch. (Now I do almost everything from scratch).
The cake came out perfect. It was level (a big deal for us home bakers) light, fluffy. It tasted awesome. It was moist — everything you could ever want in a cake — and it looked beautiful too. So, it is about 10:00pm, I am tired. The cake is cooling on a high counter top near my dining room table. I walked away from my cooling cake to start prepping ingredients for my filling and icing.
I came back to it about 20 minutes later to find my two 80lb Doberman Pinchers standing on top of my dining room table eating my perfect angel food cake, which at this point, was almost completely gone!
