Asia de Cuba
There is a reason why most people try to avoid chain restaurants, even the high-end ones. Asia de Cuba was no exception. We were a group of six people and we ordered three appetizers for the table.
We had to try the famous Lychee martini, so we ordered two and shared them amongst the table.
The group of four sitting next to us was well past their appetizers and on to our entrée before the first scrap of food arrived. We ordered a calamari salad, pork spareribs, and crispy vegetarian dumplings. Calamari salad arrived cold. While somewhat tasty, the calamari was overcooked and rubbery. The dumplings had a strange flavor to them – perhaps they had ground beans inside – whatever it was, they did not taste good. The spare ribs were tasty and very large, so one of them provided plenty of food. However, the BBQ sauce that accompanied them was quite sweet.
As a main course, I ordered the butterfish from the menu. When the fish arrived, its texture and preparation were good, but something tasted really off. I asked Janine to try it as well. This fish was definitely old. It tasted bad – as in old fish left on the counter all night bad.
So, I skipped the fish and headed back upstairs to blog and then work.
